About Tai Chi

Tai Chi is a traditional Chinese internal martial art rooted in the philosophy of Yin and Yang—the duality of forcing and yielding, attacking and defending. It also focuses on cultivating and balancing Qi (life energy), promoting overall vitality and well-being.

Training in Tai Chi offers numerous physical, emotional, and therapeutic benefits. The slow, deliberate practice of Tai Chi forms develops strength, flexibility, balance, and mindfulness, contributing to its widespread popularity beyond its martial arts origins. Tai Chi is characterized by continuous, flowing movements that promote a sense of inner calm and fluidity.

Traditionally, Tai Chi training begins with Chuan (empty-hand) form practice, progresses to weapons training (dao—broadsword, jian—sword, and qiang—spear), and culminates in Tui Shou (partner training). The physical, mental, and energetic benefits of Tai Chi are present at every stage of training.

Chen-Style was the original form of Tai Chi, but today, there are five major recognized styles:

  • Chen-Style

  • Yang-Style

  • Wu-Style

  • Sun-Style

  • Hao-Style
